Spam is back in a big way

Email Spam levels are higher now then they were in 2010. At issue is how botnets have gotten around traditional detection methods.

Network World has an article discussing how email spam levels have reached new highs.  This beats out the highest levels previously on record, which was 2010.  SpamCop, one of the Internet’s most used services for blocking spam, featured 200,000 blacklisted IP addresses at the beginning of the year.  This has more than doubled in 2016.  The issue is Necurs botnet, which is a group of infected computers across the internet acting as one unit to spread malware and spam.

Necurs botnet has been really good at hiding all of its infected computers, using only a small subset of them to send malware.  Since they only use a small potion of their botnet, it makes it really difficult to stop them.

While there is no single way to stop spam, Nine Virtual Technologies uses a multilayered approach, which is constantly updated to makes sure you receive protection from the latest threats.  If you have been thinking about moving to the cloud, reach out to one of our Account Executives today to see you we can better serve your small business or non profit.
