Cloud Revenue Continues to Skyrocket
According to a recent post by the New York Times, Cloud revenue continues to climb and the charge is led by Microsoft and IBM. According to last quarter’s revenue postings, the two tech giants cloud-based revenue keeps growing. In fact, Microsoft’s cloud sector saw profits increase by 164 percent. Amazon is still in the lead with $962 million in cloud revenue. However, Amazon only saw a 49 percent growth rate.
The New York Times article also details Microsoft and IBM’s aggressive plan to convert their traditional software offerings (think Microsoft Office) to subscription and cloud-based models.
On a related note, Gartner released a report stating the personal cloud would replace the personal computer by 2014. While we are not there yet, Nine Virtual Technologies is seeing an influx of small businesses and non-profits eager to go with a Cloud provider that can offer the expertise and storage of the Big Cloud providers, but with individualized solutions and attention to their specialized needs.
