2014 will be the year for DaaS
The internet is buzzing with news that 2014 will be a big year for DaaS. DaaS is an acronym for “Desktop as a Service“. It is what Nine Virtual Technologies has specialized in years before there was a “buzzword” for the term. Desktop as a service is also know as a virtual hosted desktop. Quite simply, its a desktop hosted in a private cloud. 2014 is poised to be such a big year because the technology supporting virtualization is becoming more cost effective and improving so much that there is often little difference in performance between virtual and physical desktops. This is especially true for business users who mainly perform light to medium workloads.
Amazon has recently announced a Beta of their Workloads product. It is a virtual desktop available for as low as $35 per month. Will that is significantly less expensive that our offerings, it is important to know that not all virtual desktops are created equal. For example, Amazon is only offering Windows 2008 R2 as a desktop. We offer the latest, which is Windows 8.1. While Amazon provides a desktop essentially for rent, you actually own the desktops you use at Nine Virtual Technologies.
The differences do not stop there: Nine Virtual Technologies includes Exchange 2013 email hosting, Office 2013, as well as technical support to assist you with your technology needs.
If you want to rent virtual desktops for an inexpensive price, DaaS through Amazon, Rackspace, or other big providers is certainly the way to go. If you are looking to own all of your virtual data and desktops, as well as have a total office solution at an affordable price, you should look no further than Nine Virtual Technologies.
